Shopping huge clearances for holidays and then holding those items until next holiday for huge returns. Also, some ideas on how to shop one holiday and turn around and promote it differently for another holiday.
Tracy’s Tuesday Tip: Seasonal & Holiday Shopping for ebay and Amazon FBA
In this video, Tracy discusses with us all the advantages of sourcing products after
the holidays. Retailers are looking to clear out all their holiday merchandise and extra stock so they usually start at 30% off and then keep discounting the clearance merchandise until they are at 90% off. This is when you can really increase your profits. By buying it at 10%, will allow you to sell it for 100% of retail and your ROI will really increase.
She will go the day after a holiday, just to check out what they have and see if there is anything that she really wants. If not, she will go back a few days later when the better discounts are put in place. Then she will make the rest of the purchases.
Make sure if you are approved to sell in grocery, you pay attention to the expiration dates on the clearance priced candy and chocolate. Also, keep in mind where you live and the weather. Tracy lives in Florida so she would have to be careful of mailing chocolate or it might melt before it arrives to Amazon and then shipped out to a customer.
Tracy suggest buying the holiday things on clearance and then holding onto them until the following season and then send them in and be able to sell the for the full retail price. She stores them in boxes and labels the outside of the box of the contents. She will store them for the spring and summer and then ship them off to Amazon in September.
She also has an amazing suggestion of buying holiday items and re-marketing them for another holiday to sell. So an example would be that you would pick up red gift bags after Christmas and then create a listing and sell them for Valentine’s Day. Green gift bags, bought after St. Patrick’s Day could be sold at Christmas. This way you can sell the items right away and wouldn’t have to wait months and months in order to sell the items.
Another great idea was to purchase the crosses that are from Easter and make gift
baskets and sell them for a Baptism gift or make First Communion gift baskets and include the crosses in those baskets.
Tracy shares with us, 2 separate videos that she took sourcing products after holidays. One is from Kroger, which is a grocery store that is in Indiana and the second video is from CVS, that she shot after Easter.
The first video we will get to watch is the one that she took at Kroger to do some grocery shopping and stopped to check out the post holiday sales. The sign says 90% off!!!! The shelves are packed with all sorts of awesome things that can be sold year round as well as things that Tracy can stash away for next season.
She scans the whole area to check the prices and the rankings and ends up buying a whole shopping cart filled with merchandise for 90% off!
She finds a wall anchor by Command that she can pick up for $1.79 and will make a net profit of $28.00 and the shelf is filled with them. Being that they are outdoor wall hangers, she will be able to sell them right away.
Tracy ended up buying 7 bags of Christmas merchandise that she can sell and paid cents on the dollar! That is an awesome shopping day for her!
Tracy would be able to sell some of the things on EBay, right from Indiana. She carries her printer and Dymo label printer and can work right from her backpack. So even when on vacation, you can still make
money!
During this one shopping trip to the grocery store, she will literally make hundreds of dollars on the little bit of money that she spent so it is setting her up for a great 4th. quarter!
The next video that she shares with us is from a shopping trip at CVS, after Easter. The sign reads 50% off Easter items and this was just the day after Easter. The shelves are still packed with a huge variety of Easter candy.
She reminds us to be careful of the expiration dates but some of the items won’t have expiration dates, such as: the baskets, egg dye kits, Easter grass, stuffed animals, etc. So those things can be packed
away for the next Easter.
