Tracy’s Tuesday Tip: how to prepare glass to ship … for EBay
In this video, Tracy focuses on tips for beginners or first time shipping of glass and how to actually pack it so that it doesn’t break en route.
Glass is one of Tracy’s least favorite items to sell because of the high breakage probability, which cost her money! It is a loss of the money she spent on the items, the money used to ship the item, the time, and the reimbursement to the buyer, not to mention the possibility of getting negative feedback. When you are working from home at your own business, you have to make sure that you don’t risk extra losses and you won’t want any negative feedback to effect your business.
Taking a little time to follow these steps, ensures a high probability that it won’t break and that your customer will be happy.
Tracy takes us through the following steps:
1.) Wrap your glass item completely with bubble wrap. Tracy wraps around it and over it 3 times and then tells us to tape the bubble wrap in place. Wrap the tape around the entire bundle.
2.) Next, Tracy lines the inside of a small box with bubble wrap and place the bundled up glass, into the small box and fill any extra space with more bubble wrap, or paper so that the glass bundle cannot move. Cover the top of the glass bundle with more bubble wrap and then close the small box.
3.) Now, Tracy takes a bigger box and once again, line it with more bubble wrap or cushion material. Then place the small box in the center of the big box. Fill in any empty space with more bubble wrap or crumpled up paper for extra cushion. Put more cushion on the top of the small box. Make sure that the small box is secure and will not move if the package is tossed or dropped.
4.) For extra security for you is make sure that you ship your package with tracking and insurance on all your glass items. It will help cut your losses if it does break. The employees might even be more careful if it is insured because they will know it is something special. Additionally, a big “fragile” sticker might help as well.
It’s your own business so make sure you protect your shipments as much as you can!
