Today Tracy shares with us how to organize your home office for maximum productivity and opens the doors to her own, personal office so we can see how she organized it.
By keeping your office organized and clutter free, you will feel more in control of your workload, help you feel more competent, higher productivity, defend against distractions and less stress for you.
Tracy opens the doors to her office and shows us how she started to organize her office. The first thing that she tells us to do is purge the room. Get everything out!
She hired her son to help her empty her office and filled the driveway with piles of boxes. Her son jokes with Tracy that it is slave labor and encourages the viewers to vote in the comments if they think he should get paid more!
With the room now emptied, Tracy painted the room a nice grey to match her EG decorations that she uses. So this is the perfect time for you to choose that new color and get your office a color that you love.
Next, Tracy suggests that when you are putting the things back in the office, make sure it is only things that you love and that add value. So whether it is something that brings you joy or calms you and the things that actually add value to her work. Things like the paper trays, computer monitors, etc. Those are the only things that should be going back into your office.
Start with moving in the large pieces of furniture such as: desks, tables, chairs, book cases and large plants. This way you will know the layout of the room.
You will need to have a “catch all space” for you to have for your incoming inventory, supplies and anything else that is in the constant flow of paperwork. Tracy has a folder that is for all her business inventory forms, etc. She also has a bin that she keeps on her desk that is for all her “to do” things that she needs to focus on.
Another thing that she has in her office is a huge trash can. This way it is right there and she is more likely to throw things out and not save things and make more clutter.
Tracy has a full wall of desktops and suggests that you keep your desktop clutter free. That is the space that you will be doing your work and it needs to be clear of junk and piles of things. By having a clear work surface, you will be able to lay out any project that you are working on and it will seem more manageable.
A daily routine for Tracy is to grab her cup of coffee and sit down and make her “power list” of things that she has to get done for the day. The power list is for both personal things as well as business things. But anything that is on that list, is a “must do” for the day.
Also, Tracy keeps her “5 goals list” by her desk. Each morning, she will review that list and see what she needs to work on to achieve these goals. No new goals can go on the list until one of the goals is completed.
Next, Tracy has her coaching clients folders and list that she will review and see who she needs to contact and review what she needs to do with her clients, that day.
Also, she suggests to keep your big physical things in drawers such as envelopes, poly bags, etc. This way they are out of the way and off your work surface but still close by for when you need them. Then have another area for all the things that you use often, such as: scissors, rulers, markers, etc. This way they are all right there when you need to use one and you don’t have to be digging in a drawer to look for them.
Keep watching for the 2nd part of the video and Tracy takes us on an in depth tour of her office. See how she keeps everything organized and she even let’s us take a peek inside the cabinet drawers to see what supplies she has.
You will get to see what tools she uses, what supplies she has, equipment and all the other cool things she has in the office.
Tracy’s organizational skills along with her having a keen eye for style, shows us how to make a really cool office that will make you want to go to work each day!
Hope you enjoyed this video and were able to get some helpful tips.
