In this video, Tracy shares with us how she is dealing with being an entrepreneur and work at home while she is healing from her torn ligament.
Ouch! Tracy went to a trampoline park and tore her lateral ligament in two! Now she is unable to walk and is stuck in her bed or her couch, for awhile.
She was planning on doing a series on “Overcoming Obstacles” and so what better time to “kick it off” (no pun intended) but right from her bed!
Tracy is no stranger to obstacles. She had a pulmonary embolism, then was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and before this video was made, her Dad suffered a heart attack. So she speaks from “knowing” what obstacles are vs. just guessing.
Because of Tracy’s injury, she will not be able to do retail arbitrage, no garage sales and Thanksgiving Black Friday weekend. She will need 4-6 weeks to heal this ligament.
Tracy reminds us: ” Illness or health issues will strike all of us, eventually….with no warning. We all live with a false sense of security. Once we realize this, we can be mindful of our life. We can live differently….BETTER. We can put thought into WHO we really are and WHAT we want. We Adapt.
Tracy talks about when she was hit with the pulmonary embolism and was told that she could die, the first thing that happens is that she was thrown into panic. Then she started to research to learn as much as she could and then she was able to wrap her mind around what was actually happening.
This is when we adapt and change. It was at this time for Tracy, that she was actually in the bed in ICU that she was reflecting on her own life and thinking about regrets that she had and things that she wished she had done and things that she hadn’t done.
She said that the thing that became most important was her relationships. It could be your immediate family, extended family, God, friends. But this is what we tend to cling to when we are faced with a crisis.
Next you think about your life and what you want. Are you working 60-70 hrs a week? Do you want to travel? What would you like to be doing? It is a time that you think about your life and what changes you would make.
Tracy then spent 3 months reflecting on her health and thinking about what really was the definition of her life. She reflected to figure out what it was that she wanted her life to be like now, once she had survived these health obstacles. She took the time and wrote it all out on paper.
Now what you will need is money to achieve the lifestyle that you want. It takes money to travel, to cut back on hours and achieve other things that you have put on your list. So you have to figure out how you are going to be able to make that amount of money that you need.
With money comes freedom and Tracy shares that she would like to be on the upper spectrum of the earning because she would like to be able to do the things she wants with her family, choose to travel, choose to hire a maid instead of having to clean the house herself, etc.
If you think about the jobs that are out there, you can get a job that you will make a specific amount of money, punch that time clock, get your one week vacation each year but that doesn’t give you any freedom. So, you have to think of what you can do to escape that situation and find the income that you want as well as the freedom to work the schedule you want.
When Tracy was trying to think of what she could do that would give her the freedom and the income she wanted, she thought of: stock broker, technology jobs, e commerce and basically anything that she could do on her computer. Work that could be done from your own home as a “work at home entrepreneur” is what will give you the most opportunity and freedom. So the Internet is where Tracy knew she needed to be.
Tracy knew she wanted to stock trade, but it takes so long to make money that she could take out. Then she added Ebay, but that too takes a long time to build up your business and reach each level. Next she added Amazon but that too takes awhile to build up that business on it’s own. Next, she added Youtube, but that makes very little money for her. Also, she is working on her web site and she will have her ebooks, coaching, courses, affiliates, advertising and product that she sells. Each avenue of income she adds, brings her that much closer to her monthly goal of how much she wants to earn.
She doesn’t want to earn more money because she is greedy, but because of the lifestyle that having more money allows you to enjoy.
All this change in Tracy, started with her cancer, the embolism and now with her foot. It forces you to really put things into prospective. But Tracy explains that by her now having all these streams of income, if something happens to one of them, her income is not going to come to a screeching halt. Her income will continue and allow her to adjust and carry on.
Tracy then goes on to discuss obstacles such as: kids, stress, time & adversity and all the things that come up that get in the way of your business.
Entrepreneurgirl.net will be covering all of these subjects in various videos. You can watch the videos that pertain to you and your situation.
When you are dealing with a health crisis or obstacles, Tracy encourages you to talk about with other and don’t forget to ask for help.
Even if you have triggers that remind you of what is going on or what happened, it is still best to keep talking about it. The more you talk about it, the more you will overcome the fear.
In ending, Tracy wants our take away to be that we need to stop living someone else’s life!
Hope you enjoyed this video.
We will see you again soon!
