Prepping your products for e-commerce photography might feel overwhelming, or has you feeling like something isn’t right. And everyone knows that if your products don’t look good, they aren’t going to sell well either. For a successful business in em-commerce you MUST know how to prep you product so that you can then showcase it to the world, and attract buyers. Now there is two ways of going about this, you can either pay someone to take these photos for you, or you can prep them yourselves. Now if you feel as though you don’t have enough time in the day, and that you really need help just getting your products up so they can be sold, Entrepreneur Girl can help you with that. If you haven’t checked out our video or blog “3 Types of E-Commerce Photography” then you wouldn’t know that Entrepreneur Girl will actually take all three types of e-commerce photography FOR you. If you’re confused on what I mean by the “3 types of photography” then you are more then welcome to check out our video or blog. However, lets get into how you can prep your product for e-commerce photography.

The first step to taking great pictures for e-commerce photography is to set up a clean and pristine background. We included this on prepping your products, because without a background, the photos probably won’t turn out the best. Typically viewers like seeing a background that is one solid color, typically something more neutral like white, or gray. We use a seamless background. You can purchase the same background through the link: https://amzn.to/2ru8mVg . While mannequin and model shots can be taken upon that background, for the hero shots you need more of a contained portable photography set. You can purchase this set through: https://amzn.to/2wpFkLd . This set is absolutely amazing because it is indeed portable. We don’t expect you to take it everywhere with you, but the set can be collapsed into something smaller. This is perfect for entrepreneurs who are limited in storage and don’t always have room for a stationary photo studio. We highly, highly suggest both items and suggest that you check both items out.
Good lighting is very, very important. Bad lighting can make even the best product look horrible. So it is very important that the lighting isn’t too harsh or not bright enough. The lighting tools that we swear by can all be found on amazon. Our handy dandy ring light is https://amzn.to/2jIyNCq . The Neewer Ring Light is the perfect piece of lighting equipment if you’re just starting out. Reason being that it is much smaller than the lighting stand kits, yet it does an amazing job. The lighting stand kit we use is: https://amzn.to/2K4Db9S . This kit comes with not only soft lights, but a backdrop as well. Meaning that through this kit you would cover the background and lighting portion of your photography.
Photography equipment means nothing if your products look terrible. Customers want to be visually pleased with what they are seeing. Meaning that wrinkles, lint, and pesky animal hair is not good!! Often enough at least one of these things happen but it’s your job to fix it. For wrinkles we highly suggest a water steamer. If you check out the linked YouTube video, you see how Tracy uses it. Water steamers are muchhhhh better then the classic iron. Reason being that they are much easier to use, and do not harm the fabric. Clothing material can be harmed by hot irons. You don’t want it to be your fault on why you can no longer sell that product. You can’t make anything from an item that now has faults when it was originally brand new. Additionally in order to remove lint, and animal hair you would need a lint roller. We suggest running your products through the lint roller before any pictures. Even if there doesn’t seem to be anything, it doesn’t hurt to make sure.
Once the product is rolled, and steamed you would need to place the item on a mannequin. Not only does it help the customer see how the product would actually fit, but it lets you see whether or not there are wrinkles you had missed. We use boy and girl mannequins. You can purchase the full female body mannequin through: https://amzn.to/2rtw9EV . You can purchase the male full body mannequin through: https://amzn.to/2wsbCW8 .
Great quality pictures don’t come from a flip phone. You need a quality camera in order to take photos. Here at Entrepreneur Girl, we use a Canon T6i which we absolutely love. You can purchase this camera through amazon: https://amzn.to/2K2nn7r . If you’re just starting out and need a camera that will less of an investment, we suggest the Canon SX530: https://amzn.to/2IqxINt . Both cameras are great and would be a great addition to your business.
