Today we check out the dollar stores… specifically, Dollar General and Dollar Tree. See what we like and don’t like about this line of store.
In this video, Tracy takes us along for some retail arbitrage at a couple big box stores. Dollar General and Dollar Tree. So pull up a chair and grab a cup of coffee and let’s see what she is able to find!
First stop is Dollar General. Tracy first stops at pet supplies. There was a nail clipper that would net her about $2 profit so she passed on that. Also she finds a bag of balls that boast a $16 profit but they only had 1 star. She decides to buy one to test it but didn’t want to risk buying more.
Next, she moves on to home goods. She reveals to us that out of all of the dollar stores, Dollar General is the least favorite on the list because things are not just a dollar and that drives her nuts. Also, she finds most items better at the other stores. But with that said, she still does pop in for a quick look because on occasion, she has found some good merchandise to sell.
She scanned a lot of merchandise but they were not coming up on the data base so she left them on the shelf.
Even on the clearance aisle, she was not able to find anything that was worth it for her to take a chance on. She even came upon a bunch of Florida Gator’s things but they also were not in the data base.
In the end she only bought the bag of balls, and a key chain and a pair of Spider Man walkie talkie that shows that she will be able to make $11 on those. But those were the only 3 things that she was willing to take a risk on.
Next she moved onto Dollar Tree, where everything is really only $1. She quickly finds readers that sell for $1 and she sees them bundled for $30. Next she finds CoCo Cola glasses that she would be able to bundle and make sets to sell on EBay along with some vintage bottles.
She next finds some microfiber towels and scans them and it shows that she can make $6 profit, after fees! So that is a good find.
Moving onto the beauty department, Tracy finds bags of 500 hair rubber-bands that she can buy for $1 and net $5.48. So she picked up a lot of those.
Next, she stops in the baby department and shares with us that since 4th quarter is coming up, she thinks baby items might do well. She shows us a rattle toy, a pacifier and a “baby on board” sign that with the 3 of those items, she could make over $10 and they would be easy to ship and great stocking stuffers, etc.
Tracy loves that all the items in Dollar Tree are always $1 so that makes it easier to find items to sell at a profit. Also, she tell us that with some quick scanning, she can always find a couple big bags of things that she can sell for a profit.
So she gives a thumbs down for Dollar General and a thumbs up for Dollar Tree.
